NAD+
(Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide)
NAD+ is a coenzyme, universally present in all living cells & is essential for healthspan & lifespan. Hundreds of enzymes in the human body depend on NAD+ in order to carry our their normal activity. It is intricately involved in all major metabolic pathways & is a core driver of our metabolism. It is also needed for critical processes such as DNA repair & immunomodulation (change in the body's immune system).
How does the body get NAD+?
NAD+ is constantly being used up by the body to drive important biochemical pathways & crucial physiological effects. NAD+ levels decline with age, therefore, there is a constant need to replenish it on a regular basis. In humans, NAD+ is either synthesised from basic ingredients inside the body through a process known as 'de novo synthesis', or old NAD+ that was previously broken down in the body is 'recycled' to form new NAD+ through a process known as the 'salvage pathway'.
